Why Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship provides a pathway to an Associate’s Degree for classified staff members and opens doors to opportunities for advancement.

Apprentices work in their normal position in their school district to complete their on-the-job training (OJT) and complete related supplemental instruction (RSI) at local community colleges or online on their own time.

The Benefits of apprenticeship

  • Increase your skills and education while working at your job

  • Earn college credits with a 50% discount on tuition

  • Apprenticeship can be a pathway to a degree

  • Opportunity for increased pay, depending on your district

  • Personal satisfaction of gaining valuable skills

Become an Apprentice

To register as an apprentice in education you would need to be classified staff member employed at a public school district that participates in the apprenticeship program in one of the apprenticeship occupation fields. There is a one-time $50 fee to register.

Registered apprentices are eligible for 50% off of tuition at participating community colleges. Many school districts have bargaining language that offers professional development funds to reimburse apprentices for a portion of their out-of-pocket tuition expenses.
