Why Apprenticeship?

Public school districts are faced with unique training requirements and limited resources. Apprenticeship in education provides the opportunity to meet those requirements, and in many cases offers classified staff members a pathway to a college degree at a 50% tuition discount.

Partnering with Washington Public School Classified Employees Apprenticeship program (JATC) can help your school district bridge the gap between meeting the minimum requirements and exceeding expectations!

The Benefits of apprenticeship

  • Increase the skills and education of your workforce

  • Greater level of staff retention

  • More consistency in the training of staff members

  • Opportunity for increased diversity in workforce

  • Providing opportunities to people entering the workforce with disabilities

Is apprenticeship right for your district?

Answer these questions to find out if apprenticeship is the right fit for your school district training needs.

  1. Are you looking for a way to “grow your own” in your school district?

  2. Would you like to re-engage existing staff by providing an opportunity for them to complete an AA degree?

  3. Could offering apprenticeship opportunities when recruiting new staff members help your district more accurately reflect the diversity of your student body?

Duties & Responsibilities

Employers (Training Agents) recruit apprentices from new and existing classified staff members, track the hours an apprentice spends on the job (OJT) and completing related supplemental instruction (RSI), and reports changes in the apprentice’s status to the state committee (JATC).

This website will provide resources, tools, forms and best practice guidance to assist with the day-to-day operation of the program.
